Viewing modern art in a townhouse with more than 100 years of history.
Established in Ginza in 1969 as a gallery dealing with modern and contemporary European art. Since then, "Galerie Tomonaga" has opened galleries in Paris and Osaka, and has delivered excellent works to leading museums and collectors in Japan. The Kyoto branch, located in a quiet area along the Kamo River, is an atmospheric space in a renovated machiya (townhouse) that is over 100 years old. The works of mainly young Japanese artists are introduced here, and time spent with art that tickles your curiosity seems to restore a sense of relaxation to your mind. The exhibition is free of charge, so it is a great place to stop by when you visit Sanjusangendo or the Kyoto National Museum.
