The museum was established in 1997 with the aim of becoming a cultural and information base in the international city of Kyoto. The museum holds exhibitions of a wide range of genres, both domestic and international, including paintings, photographs, picture books, crafts, animation, fashion, etc. It is known for its many high-profile exhibitions of both classical and contemporary art. The museum is located on the 7th floor of JR Kyoto Isetan and can be accessed from the main staircase of Kyoto Station, so why not drop by before boarding the Shinkansen?

The exhibition consists of three parts, "Voices of the Ocean," "Voices of the Earth," and "Voices of the Sky," and presents a multifaceted view of life on the Earth through approximately 100 photographs.

Hishida Shunso (1874-1911) was a Japanese-style painter who created numerous masterpieces while searching for a new style of Japanese painting in the late Meiji period. This exhibition introduces Shunso's attempts at expression from the perspectives of "line," "air and light," "color and the classics," and explores the expression of these challengers in the art world through the works of artists closely associated with Shunso, including Shimomura Kanzan and Yokoyama Taikan, who studied together.
