  Former Glover House

  The Former Glover Residence is oldest wooden Western-style building in Japan. It was in this house that Thomas Glover, a Scottish merchant who played a major role in modernizing Japan, and his children resided for two generations. It was registered in 2015 as one of the components of the World Heritage Site "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution.”In 2021, a major renovation that lasted about three years was completed.

  Interior exhibits

  Inside the Former Glover Residence, there is an exhibit that faithfully recreates the interior of the residence based on documents and old photographs. The exhibit will take you on a trip back in time and allow you to feel for yourself a part of the Glover family's everyday life.

• National Important Cultural Property “Former Ringer Residence”

  Built around 1868. Former residence of Frederick Ringer, who worked for the Glover Trading Company and founded the Home Ringer Trading Company.

• Six Relocated Buildings

  Six Western-style buildings from the Meiji period scattered throughout Nagasaki City have been relocated and restored. The buildings include foreign crew quarters, residences of great men, and Western-style buildings used by Japanese people, all of which retain various aspects of their daily lives.

• Former Mitsubishi No.2 Dock House

  Built in the Meiji era, this dormitory for foreign crews offers a spectacular view of Nagasaki Harbor from its second-floor terrace.

  Visitor Center for Industrial Revolution Heritage

  The second floor of the Old Mitsubishi Dock House introduces the history and value of the constituent assets of the 'Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution.

• Former Presidence of the Head of the Nagasaki District Court

  Government building reflecting the Westernization of Meiji and Nagasaki. Inside, the furnishings that were used before the building was moved are on display, and there is also a “Retro Costume Pavilion” attached to the building.

  Tartan Outfit Campaign

  The event is held on the third Sunday of every month. In honor of Glover’s native Scotland, those who bring tartan (plaid) will receive a 50% discount on certain items at the Glover Cafe. Additionally, a 5% discount is available at the Garden Shop and Jiyu-tei Coffee Shop.
