Asagiri-bashi Bridge

朝霧橋 vol18 グラビア

A bridge reminiscent of the world of The Tale of Genji

Built in 1972, the bridge has an elegant feel and is 74 m long. It connects the eastern bank of the Uji-gawa River, where the Uji-Jinja Shrine is located, with the Nakajima and Tachibana-jima islands floating in the middle of the river, and its bright vermilion parapets blend in with the emotional landscape of the city. At the foot of the west bank of the bridge is a monument representing the Ten Quires of Ujiji in The Tale of Genji. The motif is of a Ukihashi and Niounomiya rowing a small boat into the Uji-gawa River.
