Famous garden with a borrowed view of Arashiyama and powerful ceiling paintings

It is the head temple of the Tenryu-ji school of the Rinzai sect and was built on the site of Kameyama-dono Palace in 1339 by Takauji ASHIKAGA to pray for the soul of the Emperor Godaigo. It is also famous as the first temple in Japan to be designated as a historic site or special place of scenic beauty. The powerful Unryu-zu on the ceiling of the Hatto and the Daruma-zu on the screen at the front entrance of the Kuri are must-sees.
