A temple that is deeply worshipped by the imperial family of Japan and serves as a family temple. It is believed that praying to the richly colored "Yokihi Kannon" will make you beautiful.
The picture shows Butsuden (Buddha hall, a main building of temple), standing in front of the 'Ori-sando', rebuilt by the fourth Shogun Ietsuna Tokugawa in 1668. It is designated as a national important cultural property as a building with features of Chinese style architecture.
It stands at the highest point of the monastery and is also called 'Higashiyama-mon Gate. It is decorated with sacred animal sculptures, and you can feel the remains of the magnificent Momoyama architecture.
A garden that extends to the south of the Gozasho built in 1818. The garden, which mixes natural and artificial techniques, lets you enjoy the expressions of the four seasons such as autumn leaves.
The statue is said to have been brought back from the Southern Sung Dynasty. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang is said to have made a statue modeled on the late Yang Guifei. Since it has been hibutsu for a long time, its rich colors still remain and its beauty is said to be a blessing to pray for beautiful women.
