Togetsu-kyo Bridge

渡月橋 vol18 グラビア

A landmark of Arashiyama where the wooden parapets blend in with the scenery

The bridge was built between 834 and 848 by the monk Dosho and was completed in 1934. The total length is 155 meters, and the piers are made of reinforced concrete, but the parapets are made of cypress, which blends in with the surrounding scenery. It is often used as a location for TV dramas and movies. Togetsukyo's cherry blossom season is usually from late March to early April. The Togetsukyo Bridge, seen over the cherry blossoms along the river, is a picture.
