Heian Jingu Shrine

平安神宮 vol18 グラビア

The elegant vermilion Dynasty architecture conveys the life of the Imperial Court

This shrines was built in 1895 (1895) to commemorate the 1100 year anniversary of the transfer of the national capital to Heian-kyo. It enshrines the 50th Emperor Kanmu and the 121st Emperor Komei. About 5/8 of the main building of Chodoin, the main building of Heian-kyo, is reproduced, and the building techniques of the Heian period such as Daigokuden, Soryuro, Byakkoro are gathered. The vast Shinen garden consists of four gardens, and the flowers of the four seasons show their different expressions. There are more than 20 kinds of cherry trees, mainly Beniedappu-zakura. The contrast between the red paint and the pink cherry blossoms in the shrine building is wonderful.
