The building was a branch office of a newspaper company reflecting the state-of-the-art of the time.
Construction was completed in 1928. The space, which incorporates Frank Lloyd Wright and Art Deco styles popular at the time, was mainly used as the former Kyoto branch office of the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper. Today, the building houses a gallery, restaurant, theater, and other facilities.
