A Rainbow Bridge that Enriches the Soul: [National Treasure] Tsujun Bridge.
Built in 1854 to supply water to the drought-stricken Shiraito Plateau, Tsujun Bridge is one of the largest stone arch aqueducts from the modern era and the only one among stone arch bridges capable of “discharge.” The aqueduct measures approximately 119 meters long, the bridge is about 78 meters long, 6.6 meters wide, and 21.3 meters high, with an arch radius of about 28.1 meters. It channels water from the Sasahara River, approximately 6 km away, and continues to nourish the rice fields of Shiraito Plateau. Designated an Important Cultural Property in 1960, it was elevated to National Treasure status in 2023.
Visitors can access the bridge for viewing (for a fee) on water discharge days from 10 AM to 3 PM. If you wish to view the bridge, please register at the “Tsujun Bridge Mieru Terrace” located in front of Tsujun Bridge.
