Nakanoshima
A teahouse space spreads across the building. Don't miss the ambitious special exhibitions!
The Kosetsu Museum of Art (currently closed for renovations) opened in November 1973 in Mikage, Higashinada Ward, Kobe, showcasing the art collection of Murayama Ryuhei (1850–1933, pen name Kosetsu), one of the founders of the Asahi Shimbun Company. It is located in a corner of the former Murayama Residence (a nationally designated Important Cultural Property) at the foot of Mount Rokko, a collection of Meiji-era Western-style buildings and teahouses. The museum's collection primarily consists of Japanese and Oriental antiques, ranging from swords, armor, and other military equipment to Buddhist art, calligraphy, early modern paintings, and tea ceremony utensils. Of these, 20 pieces are designated Important Cultural Properties and 32 are designated Important Art Objects. The Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum of Art opened on March 21, 2018, as the second exhibition facility of the Kosetsu Museum of Art, a public interest incorporated foundation. The Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum of Art, which opened to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the opening of the Kosetsu Museum of Art, is located in a high-rise building in the central business district of Osaka, but has created a tranquil space that evokes the image of a "mountain retreat in the city." The Nakanoshima Kosetsu Museum of Art aims to be a widely loved museum by hosting special exhibitions on a variety of themes.
