Uji Shrine

An ancient shrine guarded by rabbits along the Uji River

This ancient shrine was founded in 313 and enshrines Ujimichi Wakairoko no Mikoto. Built on the site of Emperor Ojin's villa, it was also known as Uji Rikyu Hachiman. The main hall, built in the Sangensha Nagare-zukuri style, is said to have been built in the early Kamakura period.
A wooden seated statue of Ujimichi Wakairoko no Mikoto is enshrined in the main hall.

  There are also fortune-telling slips based on the historical story of the returning rabbit, which cost 500 yen.

  There is a rabbit figurine in an area surrounded by trees to the right of the main shrine, which is said to be a power spot.
