Kyoto Gyoen

An urban oasis where you can experience history and nature

This national park, surrounding the Kyoto Imperial Palace, is the former site of a noble's district. Approximately 10 trees of about 150 species grow here, with plum, peach, and cherry blossoms blooming in each season. Historical remains, such as the Hamaguri Gate, the site of fierce fighting during the Kinmon Incident, are also scattered throughout the park.

  Historical information boards are erected at various historical sites throughout the park, and it's enjoyable to walk around and learn about them.
