Minamiza

A theater with the longest history in Japan, preserving the traditions of a town known for its theaters.

As one of the theaters officially sanctioned by the Tokugawa Shogunate, it began operations during the Edo period. It is renowned as the oldest theater in Japan in terms of history and tradition. In addition to its dignified exterior, the numerous classical and special design elements, such as the marble staircase and the magnificent lattice ceiling, are well worth seeing.

The photo is from the "Kichirei Kaomise Kogyo" (Annual Kabuki Performance) in 6. The building is distinctive, incorporating Momoyama-style design elements, and is a nationally registered tangible cultural property.
