Gion
The head temple of a prestigious Zen temple, ranked third among the Kyoto Five Mountains
Kyoto's oldest Zen temple was built in 1202 by Eisai, who studied Zen in Song China. It possesses many valuable cultural assets, including the "Twin Dragons" painting on the ceiling of the lecture hall and the National Treasure "Wind God and Thunder God" painting (the exhibit is a replica). The three gardens, which exude modern spatial beauty, are also spectacular.
