Sanneizaka (Sannenzaka) and Nineizaka (Ninenzaka)

A fun detour to the souvenir shops along the cobblestone road connecting Yasaka and Kiyomizu

This stone-paved road was built as a pilgrimage route to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It connects the temple to Yasaka Shrine, so it is bustling with tourists, and the road is lined with sweet shops and souvenir stores. The area north of the stone steps is Ninenzaka, and the area south is Sannenzaka.

  The name is said to come from the fact that it is a slope that people climb to pray for a peaceful childbirth.

  There are shops on both sides of the road, so you can enjoy a stroll between Yasaka and Shimizu without getting bored. The road is closed to vehicles, so you can travel comfortably.
