Former Saga Imperial Palace Daikakuji Temple

One of Japan's three great moon-viewing locations, still reminiscent of the Heian period

This is the head temple of the Daikakuji branch of the Shingon sect, and a monzeki temple with ties to the imperial family, having been converted from Emperor Saga's detached palace in 876. The Osawa Pond in the eastern part of the temple grounds is Japan's oldest rinsen-style garden, modeled after China's Dongting Lake.
At Osawa Pond, following the tradition of the past, a "Moon Viewing Evening" is held during the time of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

  The Autumn Treasures Exhibition will be held from October 9th (Fri) to December 7th (Mon). Treasures such as the "Five Great Wisdom Kings Statues" (Important Cultural Property) will be on display.
