Arashiyama and Kameoka
A retro tourist train running through the great outdoors
This sightseeing train connects the popular tourist destinations of Arashiyama and Kameoka in about 25 minutes. Passengers can enjoy close-up views of the magnificent Hozugawa Gorge, and the train's guided tours and slow-moving sections at scenic spots are also popular. The train will also be illuminated from October 24th to December 29th (tentative). New trains are scheduled to begin operation in the spring of 2027, and the current trains, which are celebrating their 35th anniversary, are scheduled to be retired by the end of the year. Nine tunnels and nine bridges that adorn the Hozugawa Gorge will be designated as National Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in February 2026. Pay attention to these structures, such as the dignified brick tunnels and the Hozugawa Bridge, which spans the Hozugawa River using a truss girder, as they convey both scenic beauty and the history that supported Japan's modernization.

Torokko Saga Station: Directly next to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station / Torokko Arashiyama Station: 20-minute walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station (via the Bamboo Forest Path)
Runs every hour from 9:00 to 16:00 (Special trains operate during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons and on holidays. Please check the website.)
