Imakumano Kannonji Temple

It houses a secret Buddha statue said to have been hand-carved by Kukai.

The temple's origins date back to the late Heian period, when Kobo Daishi Kukai established a hermitage in this area. The principal image, an eleven-faced Kannon statue, is said to have been carved by the master himself. It is believed to have the power to relieve headaches, and in recent years has also become known as a temple that protects against dementia. In autumn, the temple grounds are dyed red and yellow with autumn leaves. Every year, from mid to late November, the temple grounds are covered in vibrant red autumn leaves.
