Togetsukyo

A landmark of Arashiyama with wooden railings that blend in with the scenery

The bridge was built by the monk Dosho during the Jowa era (834-848), and the current bridge was completed in 9. It is 1934m long and the piers are made of reinforced concrete, but the railings are made of cypress, allowing it to blend in with the surrounding scenery. It is often used as a filming location for television dramas and movies.

  The cherry blossom season at Togetsukyo Bridge usually runs from late March to early April. The view of Togetsukyo Bridge over the cherry blossoms along the river is picturesque.

  The bridge was named after Emperor Kameyama, who wrote that the sight of the moon moving over the bridge is like "the moon passing over the clear blue sky."

  If you want to take a photo of Togetsukyo Bridge, we recommend taking it from the west side of the bridge. You can see the colorful Arashiyama beyond the bridge.
