It has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan as the only remaining example of the ageya architecture that was used as a banquet hall by the Shinsengumi and cultural figures during the Edo period. The entire building is like an art museum, with a kitchen resembling a large temple, a gorgeous tatami room, a beautiful main garden with Garyu pine trees, and paintings by artists such as Yosa Buson.
