Shimogamo Shrine (Kamo Mioya Shrine)

An ancient shrine that combines the prehistoric forest air and the elegance of the capital

It is one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto. The exact year of its construction is unknown, but there is a record of the repair of the sacred fence in the 7th year of Emperor Sujin's reign (91 BC), so it is believed to have been worshipped before that time. The best time to see the autumn leaves in Tadasu no Mori is a little later, from late November to early December.
