Kiyomizu temple

A famous temple representing Kyoto that conveys 1200 years of history and nature to the present day

This is the head temple of the Kita Hosso sect of Buddhism, with around 30 temple buildings lined up on the middle slope of Mt. Otowa. It is said to have been founded by Priest Enchin in 9 and by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in 778. It is the 17th temple of the 798 Kannon temples of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. In addition to the main hall, famous for its "Kiyomizu Stage," there are many other sights to see, such as the Niomon Gate, the three-story pagoda, and the Otowa Waterfall.
The photo shows a three-story pagoda that was built in the early Heian period and rebuilt in 9. A statue of Dainichi Nyorai is enshrined inside.
