Uji City Tale of Genji Museum Vol.22 Uji Walk

Enter the world of "The Tale of Genji," beloved for over 1000 years

The museum opened in 1998 in Uji, the main setting of the final ten chapters of The Tale of Genji, the "Uji Jujo." The museum is divided into an exhibition zone (fees apply) and an information zone (free). The exhibition zone features a full-scale reproduction of an oxcart and original animations, greatly deepening your understanding of The Tale of Genji. There are also plenty of hands-on exhibits where you can enjoy things like "Kaimami" (glimpse) and "Genjiko," a Kumiko fragrance that distinguishes between different scents. The information zone also has a corner where you can get familiar with The Tale of Genji and a library, making it a great place for beginners to The Tale of Genji. Immerse yourself in the world of the world's oldest full-length story.
The photo shows the Heian Room. The oxcart, which symbolizes the glamorous world of The Tale of Genji, is very impressive when seen up close.
