Sengan-en Garden, a representative tourist spot in Kagoshima, is a villa for the Shimazu clan, lords of the Satsuma domain, built by Shimazu Mitsuhisa in 1658. Its scenery has captivated many notable figures in Japanese history, including the wise ruler Shimazu Nariakira and Princess Tenshoin.
In addition, various events are held throughout the year in the garden, where you can feel the changing seasons. Among them are the "Nagashibina" (Flowing Dolls) held in the spring to pray for good health for the year, the "Kyokusui no Utage" (Waka poetry recitation event), and the "Chrysanthemum Festival" in the fall, when Sengan-en is filled with approximately 15,000 chrysanthemums, attracting many visitors from inside and outside the prefecture.

The palace not only served as a villa and main residence, but also as a guest house for inviting important people from Japan and abroad. The magnificent garden with Sakurajima as an artificial hill and Kinko Bay as a pond, which can be seen from within the palace, is worth a visit. Traditional culture experience facilities

At the experience facility within the park, you can experience 13 programs that allow you to enjoy the traditional culture of Satsuma, such as cutting Satsuma Kiriko glass and wearing armor reproduced from the Shimazu family's collection. There are also other programs that people of all ages can easily participate in, and all of them can be experienced on the day without making a reservation.
